Why does your growing medium determine the kit, not the other way around?
The nutrients that actually reach your roots don't depend solely on what you mix into your water — they depend on what your medium does to those nutrients before they ever get there. Coco coir has a high cation exchange capacity (CEC) and actively sequesters calcium and magnesium out of your solution. Soil buffers pH and sustains a live microbial community. Hydro has zero buffering of any kind. Each system creates different conditions, and the right kit has to compensate for exactly that.
What does each kit include, and which medium is it for?
- Essential Kit (ALPHA + BETA + GAMMA) — works with any medium. All 3 bases together: the nitrogen and calcium in ALPHA, the potassium and sulfur in BETA, and the concentrated phosphorus in GAMMA. It's the starting point: everything a plant needs from seed to harvest.
- Terra Full (ALPHA + BETA + GAMMA + CANDY + ACID BIO) — for soil. Adds CANDY's carbohydrates to feed the substrate's microbiology, plus ACID BIO — an organic-acid pH adjuster that corrects your feed water without adding salts or harming microbial life.
- Coco Max (ALPHA + BETA + GAMMA + ACID PRO + CALMAG) — for coco. Includes CALMAG to replace the calcium and magnesium the coco's CEC locks up, and ACID PRO to dial the nutrient solution pH into the 5.8–6.2 range.
- Hidro Pro (ALPHA + BETA + GAMMA + ACID PRO) — for hydroponics. With no medium to buffer anything, your solution has to land exactly in range: ACID PRO adjusts and holds pH at 5.6–6.2.
Why do all 3 bases run together the entire cycle?
ALPHA, BETA, and GAMMA are not 'one per stage' — all three run from early veg through pre-harvest, but the ratio between them shifts. In veg, ALPHA leads (nitrogen + calcium for structure); as you push into bloom, BETA climbs (potassium + sulfur) and GAMMA follows (phosphorus for bud development). Why is CALMAG non-negotiable in coco?
Unbuffered coir comes loaded with sodium and potassium sitting at its exchange sites. When you water, those sites release Na/K and pull Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ straight out of your solution. The result: calcium and magnesium deficiency even when your res or tank tests show they're present. This isn't a dosing problem — it's substrate chemistry. CALMAG replaces what the CEC strips: 1.5–2.0 mL/L at seedling stage, a flat 2.0 mL/L through veg, then tapering off through bloom.
What's the difference between ACID PRO and ACID BIO?
Both lower pH, but they're engineered for different systems. ACID PRO is for hydro and coco: it adjusts and stabilizes nutrient solution pH with minimal dosing. ACID BIO is for soil: it's formulated with biodegradable organic acids that correct feed-water pH without adding salts or disrupting soil biology. Using ACID PRO in soil can damage microbial life; using ACID BIO in hydro won't give you the stability you need.
When does adding CANDY actually make sense?
CANDY is a carbohydrate additive for the flowering stage in soil and coco. It feeds the substrate microbiome and delivers carbon during the stretch and bulk-up phase (roughly weeks 6–12 of the reference cycle). It doesn't work in hydro because there's no substrate microbiome to feed. If you're growing in soil or coco and want to leverage the biology in your medium, CANDY is the addition that completes the Terra Full.
